Platamonas is located on the South-East part of Pieria prefecture and it is 36 kilometers off Katerini, which is capital of the prefecture. It belongs to East Olympus Municipality (which consists of the Municipal Departments of Leptokaria, Nei Pori, Panteleimonas, Platamonas, and Scotina), it is 8422 km2 in extent and it has about 2.200 resident population. The access is easy via the National Speedway E75 (Athens - Thessaloniki) or by rail.
Platamonas beaches extend from Nei Pori to Agios Panteleimonas and combine pebbles and sands. The beaches are awarded every year with the blue flag for the clearness of their waters.
You can swim near the center of the village beside the small church and the little port ( this beach has small pebbles and sand ), at the small artificial bays (sandy beaches with calm water, ideal for families with kids), under the castle of Platamonas ( beach with little grits) and at Kalamaki (a sandy beach, several kilometers long). All beaches are well organized with beach bars, cafes and restaurants.
Platamonas is considered one of the most known tourist resorts of the region. There are many commercial stores, bars, cafes and restaurants. It is suitable for family vacations but is also the ideal place for those that seek intense entertainment. Platamonas also has a harbor where you can anchor your craft.
The village of Platamonas is built at the foot of the Olympus Mountain. The region's characteristic is the reach vegetation, mainly with plane-trees, and springs with clear, drinkable water. We suggest to you to take a walk under the deep shadows of the plane-trees and visit the locations "Artemis' spring", "the spring of Muses" and "the Sanctuary spring" with the scenic, traditional watermill.
An exceptional historic monument of the region is the castle of Platamonas where, during the summer, take place performances, music concerts and other cultural events within the frame of the Olympus Festival
